Do you know what this is?
Give up? It's a screenshot of a document produced by the General Administration of Sport of China. An intrepid internet security specialist "Stryde" found it (I never heard of Baidu until now). In any event, it lists He Kexin, gold medal winner on the uneven bars for the Chinese women's little girls' gymnastics team, with a birthdate of 1/1/1994. If that is the case she would not be turning 16 until 1/1/2010, and would therefore not be eligible for Olympic competition this year.
Well, what if you search for He Kexin and 1992? You get the same result.
Oh, sure, the Chinese government issued her a passport earlier this year listing her birthdate as 1/1/1992. I'm sure they'd have no ulterior motives for falsifying the age of a gymnast sufficiently skilled to bring home more gold medals for them. This isn't about her. I'm quite sure she had nothing to do with the subterfuge.
The IOC is investigating. My prediction? Since China is the host nation they'll find that this is "insufficient evidence" to disqualify He, alter the outcomes of at least the uneven bars and possibly the team competition, and embarass the Chinese. I hope I'm wrong.
