As I'm traveling, I don't know that I'll have much more to write until perhaps Sunday. But with a lull in the action this morning I thought I'd highlight a few interesting stories.
- An X-ceptional speech was given by VP Cheney the other day. Someone at CNN "chose" to show their respect and admiration for the VP by repeatedly flashing a large black "X" over his face during the speech. Political Teen has the video, though Jeff Harrell had some technical quibbles with it. It was, allegedly, a "technical glitch." But a phone operator fielding a call complaining about the disrespect showed further disrespect, insisting the caller "tell your president to stop lying." That phone operator has been fired. Such a "technical glitch" infuriated Democrats when the word "rats" flashed briefly during a campaign ad last year. CNN, however, is an "unbiased" media outlet, and unaffiliated, or so we are led to believe, with a particular political party.
While this may have been simply a technical glitch, I suspect the real explanation is that a CNN employee knew that the background transition graphic, normally not visible, could be made visible, and did so for effect. Not the whole network; a single employee. - Another "unbiased" media source is Chris Matthews of Hardball. Demonstrating fairly clearly that such a characterization may be inaccurate, first he explains in Toronto that "The person on the other side is not evil. They just have a different perspective." (HT: Power Line) Then he gives full flight to liberal talking points in a softball Q&A with Paul Hackett, running for Senate in Ohio. Political Teen Ian has the video.
- Kevin Aylward hosting an
Open Source MediaPajamas Media logo contest, but I think this guy had the idea first. - Ace of Spades flags Bill Richardson for "resume enhancement." It seems Gov. Richardson has been telling people for quite a while that he was drafted by the Kansas City Athletics, or at least allowing the story to go unchallenged. Now Richardson has researched it and found that it's not true.
