I'm Certain That Lopez Lomong Disagrees

Mr. Lomong will carry the American flag at the Beijing Olympic opening ceremonies.  He's quite proud to represent his new country, rightfully so I believe:

"I feel happy, honored. I'm feeling so blessed to get an opportunity to present the United States of America, to present the United States flag in front of my team."

It seems others might feel ashamed.

“America is …, uh, is no longer, uh … what it could be, what it once was. And I say to myself, I don’t want that future for my children.”

Here's the video.

I'm sorry to disagree, but America is, was, and will remain a great place to live, to work, to call home.  Sure, there are things I wish were different, things I would change if I could.  Nonetheless, I tell my daughters all the time how lucky they are to be born in this nation, out of all the other great nations on earth.  I don't suspect Mr. Obama's opinion of this nation will be all that popular.  Countdown to backtrack/"clarification" in five ... four ... three ...

The Obamas have claimed that America used to be better, and also that they are just now beginning to be proud of her; that we have a sordid and honorable past.

But whatever America is or was, they're sure that they're the best ones to fix it.

Interesting point. Which is it? Was it never a place to be proud of, or is it no longer as great as it once was? And when would that greatness have been present.

Yes, I'm quite sure he can fix all of the problems he identifies.
