Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad wrote a letter to the "noble American people" yesterday. I assume he's excluding President Bush from that characterization. The letter was full of liberal anti-war talking points ... which should ordinarily give pause to those who live by liberal anti-war talking points, but I digress. Daniel Drezner has a polite response to this missive, with some probing follow-up questions for the Iranian leader. And James Taranto highlights the talking points as only he can.
The question, I guess, is why would he write such a letter now? What exactly is Mr. Ahmadinejad trying to accomplish? Do you think that maybe he knew that hard evidence of Iranian interference in Iraq had been recently found?
[T]he material is going directly from Iranian factories to Shia militias, rather than taking a roundabout path through the black market. "There is no way this could be done without (Iranian) government approval," says a senior official.
Is it then still a good idea to "talk" with Iran and Syria about a solution in Iraq?
