**Updated and bumped from 10/21**
Look, I disagree with most of what Sen. Ted Kennedy stands for, but the people of Massachusetts have sent him back to the Senate time after time after time. The voters have a right to respect for their choice.
On the other hand, if this is true, then Sen. Kennedy should resign immediately. Working during the Cold War with one's adversary in an effort to undermine the sitting president - also chosen by those same voters whose choice should be respected - is unconscionable. That the Senator did so anonymously through an intermediary, if true, indicates knowledge of the despicable nature of the action.
Could the KGB have misrepresented this in an internal memo? Of course, but why would they? I'll be interested to see if the media digs into this the way they dug into, oh, I don't know, some national guard memos from a more remote past.
10/25/06 1300: Bryan at Hot Air interviewed Paul Kengor, the author who has elaborated on this bit of tomfoolery, and posted the MP3 of his interview. It's definitely worth a read/listen. I also found this vivid simile in the comments:
Nailing down a Kennedy is like picking up mercury with a pair of tweezers.
Ain't that the truth.
