Being in the OR has it's disadvantages, one of them being that when...
- ...pompous third-world Marxist dictators in need of Jenny Craig are given a diplomatic forum like a speech at the UN, they produce anti-American rants sure to include all of the talking points of the most left of lefty Americans. And I miss it.
Chavez’s speech, which, following his well-received appearance at the UN the previous year, as widely anticipated, also went on to refer to U.S. President Bush as the “devil” on several occasions. “Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, from this rostrum, the president of the United States, the gentleman to whom I refer as the devil, came here, talking as if he owned the world,” he said.
Ace found some celebrations of this diatribe from the usual suspects. I would hope that those on the left would at the very least follow the advice of Boon and Otter in Animal House.
Boon: A vicious mother, isn't he?
Otter: He can't do that to ourpledgesPresident.
Boon: Only we can do that to ourpledgesPresident.9/20/06 2200: Read this great post by Sensible Mom. Nailed it, she did.
At this point I don't care if Chavez's remarks help republicans or not. I'm tired of third world nutcases coming to this country, insulting our President and our country and having members of the opposing party pretend it didn't happen.
When will they realize this country matters more than their party? When will they realize Chavez and his cronies, Castro and Ahmadinejad, are our enemies? Enemies who are just as interested in dead democrats as they are in dead republicans.
- Speaking of anti-Bush rants, all I can say is that it's a good thing someone else is keeping track of what Keith Olbermann is saying. Frankly, if the job were up to me it wouldn't get done. Is he still on?
- Also via Allahpundit at Hot Air is this interesting tidbit. It seems that the CIA methods - cold rooms, loud music, belly slapping, the sudden shirt grab - did produce results, and, according to the CIA agents themselves, did save lives.
Anti-”torture” absolutists like Sullivan adamantly deny that harsh tactics produce reliable information. It’s their way of avoiding the moral dilemma presented by a ticking time-bomb scenario. But they’ll have to face it now, because in four short minutes Brian Ross utterly explodes that particular article of quasi-religious faith as fantasy. Not only did they break Khaled Sheikh Mohammed; not only was the information he gave them valuable; not only did it save lives; but Ross’s sources include people within the CIA who are opposed to the practices.
"Saved lives." The CIA needs to be able to do the job of assisting the President with national security. I'm not for torture, but I'm also against dead Americans. Some of these not-so-torturous techniques may need to be approved if we hope to prevent attacks. Particularly since terrorists, who do not wear uniforms, who do not carry arms openly, who target civilians, who do not follow the Geneva conventions themselves,
do notshould not qualify for Geneva Convention protection,
