A Shooting In Seattle

A Yahoo! News/AP story on todays shooting at a Jewish center in Seattle notes that the shooter is in custody, but gives no other information on him, ignoring the elephant in the room.  It takes the Seattle Post Intelligencer 12 paragraphs to finally notice the elephant, and inform the audience that he is, indeed, in the room.

One witness, who declined to give her name, said a man walked into the Jewish Federation building with a gun, said he was upset about what was going on in Israel, then opened fire. After the shootings, the man said to call 911, the witness said. The witness said the man identified himself as an American Muslim.

Could this man have been responding to the call to worldwide jihad by Al Qaeda's #2 man yesterday?

7/29/06 0750: Ms. Malkin locatess additional information about the man in custody.
7/29/06 0900: A roundup at Wizbang!, where Captain Ed adds context.

This same center held a rally last weekend to support Israel in its war against Hezbollah, an event co-sponsored by over forty different community organizations.

7/29/06 1100: In addition to downplaying the religious affilitation of the man, the media has bent over backwards to downplay this from terrorism to "mental illness."  This is a recurring theme that is examined in more detail by Hugh Hewitt.  (hat tip: Power Line)
