No, No, It Was A Missile ...

or so goes the theory.  Well, following a Judicial Watch FOIA request the video from the parking lot surveillance camera at the Pentagon was released today, and the nose cone of a plane, American Flight 77, is visible in the first frame, but just barely.

These cameras don't take video so much as they take a sequence of still shots.  An airplane moving 500 miles per hour will travel about 750 feet in one second.  Thus a camera that takes a shot every 1/2 second is actually fairly likely to miss the plane entirely.

So it wasn't a missile.

The problem with nutty conspiracy theories is that you have to progressively enlarge the conspiracy to account for all of the things that the theory doesn't initially cover.  For instance, in this case, if it was a missile, where's the plane?  And where are the people?

More at Texas Rainmaker, where Jason finds someone "questioning the timing" already.  Video at Hot Air, via Allah.

5/16/06 1610: The length of the Boeing 757 fuselage is about 150 feet and the plane has a cruising speed of 530 mph.  It travels five plane lengths in one second.  Five plane lengths.
