Furtive Glances

A few quick ones for the morning.

  • Captain Ed Morrissey has been doing yeoman work in Washington blogging the Alito confirmation hearings.  He interviewed Senators John Kyl and Orrin Hatch yesterday, and finds Sen. Kennedy's tactics McCarthy-ish.
...I have to add something about Kennedy's pulling out sentences from magazines and newspapers and demanding to know if Alito had ever read them. Isn't this the same kind of treatment that Democrats complain that the PATRIOT Act would do to Americans -- hold them responsible for their reading material?...
Someone needs to explain to Kennedy that subpoenaing the records of a long-defunct group because one disagrees with its political views sets up a very bad precedent. ... This stinks of Joe McCarthy, another pernicious force who spent far too much time in the Senate soaking up deference while providing nothing but shameful attacks on people who have done nothing to deserve them except give their lives for public service.
  • Echoing something I had written earlier, Rick Moran hears the crickets chirping when it comes to Bush's improved poll numbers.
  • Rick's Carnival of the Clueless is up.  Guess who the 'Cluebat of the Week' is?
  • Schumer for SCOTUS?  Say it isn't so!

1/12/06 1140: Senator Graham thankfully points out the vicious and incomprehensible accusations that Sam Alito has endured so far.  Video Michelle Malkin or Ian's place.

"Let me tell you this: Guilt by association is going to drive good men and women away from wanting to sit where you're sitting. And we're going to go through a bit of this ourselves as congressmen and senators."
