It's now apparent that what will really give John Roberts smooth sailing through the Senate Judiciary seas is a fashion and marketing consultant.
Via Michelle Malkin, the Washington Post sneers at the fashion sense of his family on the night of the big announcement. And Charmaine Yoest at Reasoned Audacity notices some gay bashing, or maybe only gay joking, as it relates (?) to Mr. Roberts and his choice of trousers in the seventies. And, good heavens, he went to an all-boys school and wrestled? What's the world coming to?
Here was my comment at Ms. Yoest's site, after an early commenter indicated that perhaps Wonkette was only joking:
Joking, eh? I thought it was politically incorrect to joke about sexual orientation?
Or, maybe if you're on "the good side," and not an evil right wing nazi, you can pretty much joke about anything and it just demonstrates your sterling sense of humor.
If it's serious it's sad. If it's a joke it's hypocritical. You pick.
UPDATE: Dirty Harry, blogging at Bridget Johnson's GOP Vixen spot, has more, including Ann Althouse's sense that the NY Times is making not so subtle inferences.
UPDATE: Next time I need a new outfit for a special event I know where I'm going.

Lighten up.
This overkill on Givhan is an embrrassment to those of us Bush Republicans who think the war, the economy and the Constitution are the real issues.

I'd say on the scale of outrage I fall more towards "bemused and dismayed."

What's so funny about the Givhan piece is that it demonstrates a complete lack of sophistication or knowledge of popular culture. Those throwback outfits are all the emerging rage right now for little kids. Givhan must be quite a lame fashion critic not to know that.

Jane Roberts could have worn an outfit previously worn at the DNC convention by Teresa Heinz Kerry and it would've been panned by Givhan. 'Twas politics, not fashion that drove the writing.
