It was a busy day today, this being my first chance to read and catch up on events. Traveling, golfing, gathering with friends and family - a great way to spend the day, but not conducive to maintaining the blog. I could not likely do justice by writing - my pitiful musings would be rushed and inadequate.
Without further ado, Furtive Glances recommends the following interesting and informative posts.
- WILLisms discusses the German politician Angela Merkel, with the CDU party. Definitely worth a look at the possible future chancellor of Germany.
- Also at WILLisms
- the meanderings Sen. George Voinovich, noting "Voinovich seems to have accepted the left-wing caricature of John Bolton, although he wasn't even present at the confirmation hearings. Weak."
- it's Reform Thursday, with a demonstration of public support for opting into private accounts.
- Joe Gandelman notes the retraction of an accusation of Koran flushing, according to The Pentagon. There is also a discussion of some episodes of Koran 'mishandling', which based on the phrasing in the report do not appear to rise to the level of flushing. The retraction story is also discussed at Power Line, who note an inaccurate Reuters headline on the initial story. The question again has to be asked, what is it about the media that they seem more inclined to give Al Qaeda detainees the benefit of the doubt over the American Military? See this post at The Moderate Voice for the lead in to the retraction.
- Michelle Malkin notes the failure of the cloture vote for John Bolton, the UN Ambassador nominee. So the Democrats have to allow three judges through and now filibuster another political appointee, refusing to allow him an up or down vote? The need to get 60 votes to even bring a matter to a vote in the senate allows an unprincipled minority to act like a majority. Which is just about the only things the Democrats have going for them, having lost elections steadily since 1994 (Clinton in 1996 the lone exception). From Ms. Malkin's site:
- 658pm Frist: It certainly sounds like a filibuster. It quacks like a filibuster. It does disappoint me...We are going to come back to this issue...but I think what America has just seen is an engagement of another period of obstruction by the other side...once again, another filibuster...
700pm. Reid: We need to work together and we're going to work together, but how can we work together when we don't have information... (don't have information?!! What were all those hearings for? I call BS on Sen. Reid. - ed.)

Voinovich is in need of some tissues! "He whiffed on his issues" is what WILLisms.com says!...I love that! Vonovich is obviously not emotionally up for fighting with the stubborn donkey whiney minority party! He needs to remember his medicine next time! Maybe get someone to give him a shot of spine stiffener too...
