Ward Churchill Art Fraud?
Michelle Malkin has the scoop. It seems our lad is an artist, as well as a philosopher. He likes to reverse images produced by others, then pawn them off as his own, if this story is correct.
So, to summarize, we now have in all probability, copyright-infringing artwork being sold, advocacy of terrorism, fraudulent academic theses, and raging anti-american statements. Is there really any reason any university needs this guy? Is he stimulating pursuit of profound insights in any meaningful way?
UPDATE: Theres been a controversy lasting a day or so over whether Churchill admitted he had no Indian lineage. You can catch up on the discussion at Little Green Footballs here and here. At this point whether he admits it or not is beside the point. He has claimed the heritage but those who have investigated have not found the claim accurate.
Mr. Churchill, former chairman of the Ethnic Studies Department at the Boulder university, long has identified himself as a Cherokee Indian, saying at various times that he has one-sixteenth or three-sixteenths Cherokee blood.
But Cherokee Nation officials say that is something Mr. Churchill never has been able to prove.
"He's not a member of the Cherokee Nation and he's not eligible for membership," said Mike Miller, a spokesman for the Cherokee Nation in Tahlequah, Okla. "You have to have proof of Cherokee lineage, and he's never been able to do that."
If he wishes to make the talk go away all he needs is to provide the lineage. Similar to John Kerry during the Swift Boat Vets controversies, who needed to sign his form 180 and release his entire record. He didn't, and neither has Churchill.
